Franklin Institute Wedding
I am a big fan of a New Year’s eve wedding!
In 2022, I photographed my first New Year’s Eve wedding at Horseshoe Valley for Rosie and Shayne’s wedding, and it was an absolute blast. To make it even more special, it was also a destination wedding in Philadelphia. I have no idea how Liz and Erik found me in Toronto, but luckily, they did 🙂
I arrived in Philly the day before the wedding and decided to go check out all the locations right away, to make sure I would be ready on the day of the shoot. There are so many awesome things about destination weddings – one of them being the surprise factors of a new place to shoot. After shooting Sam and Patria’s wedding in Whistler, and Leia and Dilan in Kazakhstan, I was so excited about this new adventure in Philly.
Getting Ready
The morning started at The Logan Hotel in downtown Philadelphia, Liz got upgraded to the presidential room, OMG!!! Which had a stunning grand piano that of course, we used for photos. With the exceptional job of Marian Braccia from Porchand Pearls the morning went so smooth, we had time to do all the shots that Liz wanted AND the shots that I wanted.
Portraits at Rodin Museum
After the getting ready we went to Rodin Museum to do the first look, couple portraits, and family and bridal party shots. That day was expecting a lot of rain – but just for us – the rain gave us a brief break during the time we needed to be outside, and it was actually quite charming. Right after these photos, we went to the Philadelphia City Hall – which had a very old-fashion and unique carousel out front which ended up been a great spot for some photos.
Portraits, Ceremony, and Reception at Franklin Institute
The Franklin Institute is a photographers’ wonderland. We used the brain exhibit for some more couple portraits, and that was Liz’s favorite spot.
When we arrived in the ceremony space, I understood why they choose the Planetarium at the Franklin Institute. The whole ceiling was covered with twinkling stars and the moon was unbelievably stunning.
For the reception Liz had made a dress change, both dresses from Laura & Leigh Bridal. The Bachelor Boy’s Band kept the whole night full of energy until the 2023 countdown! Thank you so so so so so so so much Liz and Erik for such great opportunity!! I had one of the coolest experience of my life photographing you two. xoxo Diego

Imagine standing a top of a mountain peak, surrounded by snow-peaked mountains that appear through occasional breaks in the clouds. The wind is furiously trying to unravel your hair and the cold stings your hands, but none of that matters. You are holding the hands of the love of your life, looking into their tear-filled eyes as they say their vows to you, promising to love you for the rest of their lives.
On the shores of Lake Huron in Bruce County, in the municipality of Kincardine, is a small little community also called Kincardine, where the sandy beaches and clear blue water of Lake Huron are the main attraction. While Kincardine was founded in 1848, it wasn’t until this summer that Diego and I discovered Kincardine thanks to Carolyn and Leo. Carolyn grew up in the Kincardine area, with the family cottage only minutes away from the historic city centre
When’s the last time you really celebrated New Year’s Eve with your family or friends? I know for us it’s been a while. Not too many people really celebrate New Year’s Eve nowadays – they just stay at home watching the countdown on TV (that’s if they can stay awake long enough). Bars and restaurants charge exuberant fees for special New Year’s Eve menus, plus they can be so crowded, which is not always the most fun…
